As Within So Without – A Formula to Create The Reality You Desire

We have all heard of the maxim, “as above, so below.” However, there is another part to this people often leave out. When they leave this out many become frustrated because their life, their outer world is not what they would like it to be. Relationships, jobs, living situations do not reflect their desires. What they leave out is the other half of the maxim, “as within, so without.”

Many people who are into improving their lives, whether it be personal growth, or a spiritual path, believe that their outer world is a reflection of their inner world. There is truth to this belief, but in practical terms how do you apply this principle to work in you life?

The key is to create your perfect scenario in your inner world. Your inner world is not bound by time and space. You can create the world you want in your inner world. When you spend time and energy creating an inner world, and then align your thoughts, feelings and actions to it, it can’t help but to manifest in your outer world.

The following is a simple formula, that when followed will create the reality you wish in your outer world. It works because it follows the natural laws of “as within, so without.”

Sit quietly and focus on what you desire in life. You may have several desires come up but choose one. You can do this process again at another time for other desires you have. Engage your imagination and see yourself living this desire. Make it as real as you can in your inner world. See it, hear it, feel it – run different pictures and feel yourself having this desire fulfilled. Consciously imagine your desire being fulfilled. It is important to consciously imagine, in other words, you hold onto and intend your desire, and imagine it. You do not want to slip into fantasy during this process. Fantasy and imagination are different. With imagination, your conscious intent is engaged. With fantasy, the fantasy carries you away causing you to lose self.

Spend some time imagining your desire as real in your inner world. Live your desire in your inner world. After sometime just focus on the feeling of the desire – what you feel like when the desire is fulfilled. When you have the feeling of the desire fulfilled, you must then align.

Aligning is a simple but essential step in manifesting your inner world in your outer world. To align, hold onto the feeling of the desire. When you have the feeling, begin to find thoughts and mental pictures that are in alignment to feeling. Don’t change the feeling, change your thoughts and mental pictures to match the feeling.

Now, after you have your thoughts aligned to the feeling of the desire, imagine what you would be doing in your outer world with the desire manifest. Actually see yourself doing in your outer world. Find actions in your outer world that are aligned to the feeling of your desire fulfilled.

Finally, and this last step is important, pick an action that you have imagined in your inner world, and then, when you are finished with the process, get up and actually do the action. In this way, you bridge your inner world and outer world. So for example, if you are manifesting more money in your life, you may see yourself in your inner world putting a dollar everyday onto an alter you made for yourself. When you are done with your process, get up and physically put a dollar on a place you will make an alter. If you are manifesting a new loving intimate relationship, for example, you may see yourself smiling in front of your mirror, loving yourself and giving yourself a big hug. After seeing this in your inner world, get up, go to the mirror, and hug and love yourself as much as you can.

What is important is that you find the feeling of your desire fulfilled. Then, in your inner world, align your thoughts, mental pictures and actions to that feeling. Do not judge yourself as to what the pictures and actions should or should not look like. When you align, they may look different from what you might think.

Our outer world is a reflection of our inner world. This is important to remember. It is a spiritual law that we can use to create the reality we want. If you want to change your outer world, you must begin with your inner world. Too many people are constantly trying to fix the people and situations in their outer world, only to find the same things repeating again in one form or another. “As within, so without,” it is simple but powerful, use this process and you will manifest the reality you desire.

Thanks for giving me a different perspective on this old adage. While I’ve long ascribed to “intents” and “manifestation” or creating the space I want to have, I hadn’t connected with this maxim. Sometimes ideas become twisted as they are handed down, and I’ve heard “as without, so within” and this is true as well. If I allow my surroundings to become somewhat chaotic, then I notice my inner life becomes chaotic as well. There’s something about clearing and organizing a work area that also renews my spirit to work more effectively. If my living space becomes cluttered, I notice my inner energies seem to be affected. Going out into my back yard/garden during the cool of the evening has such a calming effect. So! After reading your take on without/within (or rather within/without), I’m thinking sometimes we are the reflection and sometimes we are the object, and not strictly one OR the other.

Hi Marilyn,

Thank you for your comment. Doing things like organizing a work area certainly does renew the Spirit to start afresh. And, if people spent more time cleaning, clearing and healing their inner world, they would be very pleasantly surprised at how their outer world changes for the better.

You can read so many articles on this subject…I teach it to my clients all the time….but it is so refreshing to see it written in a different way that doesn’t take up a whole book! Thank you. I enjoy your articles very much.
